Leafs do have interest in Zherdev.

Eklund is reporting that the leafs have no interest in Zherdev but I am hearing otherwise. Zherdevs agent has said that his first choice is the NHL. Zherdev is a top six guy that the leafs can sign not having to give up anything except money. If Burke is not interested he would not be doing his job.

With many teams unable to fit Zherdev into their cap system right now Burke is in a perfect spot to sign the talented Russian.

Zherdev

I hate to say I told you so but the trading of Zherdev never was going to happen.

I do belive that for the right term Zherdev may be signed by the leafs. GM Brian Burke is looking for a top 6 guy and to not have to give anything up to get one would be great for the leafs.

From what I am hearing the leafs remain interested in signing Zherdev to a deal. This gives them the option to swing another deal later with one of Kaberle or White to get another forward.

Tanguay not going to Yotes

This is why Tanguay will not be going to the Yotes. They are in a Bankruptcy sale right now and the team could be moving locations at anytime. For this reason alone you will not see many players sign a long term deal with the coyotes. Players do not like to up root their famillies and this is exactly what could happen signing a long term deal with the Yotes.

Look for Tanguay to sign on with a team in the East. I am hearing Long Island or Florida or Tampa Bay.

Eakins to be named Marlies head coach

The Toronto Maple Leafs are expected to name Dallas Eakins as the new head coach of their Toronto Marlies farm team, according to several media reports.

A news conference will be held Tuesday to announce Eakins' promotion from his post as director of player development, and both the Toronto Star and GLobe and Mail are reporting that Eakins is to be introduced.

Eakins has been in the Leafs organization since he retired as a player in 2004. He was an assistant coach under Paul Maurice with both the Leafs and the American Hockey League's Marlies.
Eakins played a total of 120 NHL games, 18 of them with the Leafs in 1998-99.

Eakins will replace Greg Gilbert, whose contract was not renewed after three seasons at the helm of the Marlies.

Leaf Rumor for Zherdev Boggus

There are a few guys out there one in particular that is a waana be on Eklund (Scotty @Hockey Bums) thats stating that a trade for Zherdev to T.O for White and Stempniak is about to go down is completely out to lunch and false.

There is no way that the Leafs trade away a trading chip like white for a guy that is set to be a UFA at season end or possibly tomorrow.

I really wish these guys would stop making this crap up.

Another thing is that he will not be going to the Oilers. Tom Renney did not see eye to eye with Zherdev last season.
